On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. Each one of us can be made into a weed when we cannot cope and live with the differences of opinion and perspectives that exist in our community. The point of the parables is completely different; the parable of the soils shows how men receive and respond to the Word of God, and the parable of the tares of the field shows how God will divide His true people from false believers at the end of this age. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.. The parable of the soils. The parable was also an encouragement to the disciples. Looking back, events in the Twentieth Century remind us that evil takes root even in the greatest good. Under rabbinic law if a workman came on a treasure in a field and lifted it out, it would belong to his master, the fields owner; but here the man is careful not to lift the treasure out till he has bought the field. He sows the tares, and tries to destroy the harvest; and, therefore, the good angels are brought in to celebrate his defeat, and to rejoice together with their Lord in the success of the divine husbandry. (Spurgeon). God is patient, he knows how to wait. These Sundays the liturgy proposes several Gospelparables, that is, short stories which Jesus used to announce the Kingdom of Heaven to the crowds. There would be a certain shock in hearing the Kingdom of God compared to leaven. (Barclay). The language suggests that Jesus was thinking of the Old Testament use of the tree as an image for a great empire (see especially Ezekiel 17:23; 31:3-9; Daniel 4:10-12). (France), iii. Historical Books The enemys purpose in sowing tares among the wheat was to destroy the wheat. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. The Old Testament Just as in the previous parable, the wheat represents the people of God. Major Prophets There was this very intelligent teenager who was the absolute headache of his mother. That in that day Christ will make a thorough and perfect separation, and divide the tares from the wheat; that is, the righteous from the wicked. The same seed was cast by the same sower. Verse 1. The previous three parables (the wheat and the tares, the mustard seed, and the leaven) each spoke of corruption in the kingdom community. Magistrates and churches may remove the openly wicked from their society; the outwardly good who are inwardly worthless they must leave; for the judging of hearts is beyond their sphere. (Spurgeon), iv. (Matthew 13:18-23) The parable of the sower explained: each soil represents one of four responses to the word of the kingdom. Jesus makes clear that we simply cannot be certain who is in or who is out. In fact, Gods judgment about these matters will take many by surprise (7:21-23; 8:11-12; 21:31-32; 25:31-46). It gave Him a place to speak, away from the press of the crowds, provided good acoustics, and probably a nice backdrop. Let us ask Our Lady, our Mother, to help us to grow in patience, in hope and in mercy with all brothers and sisters. Luke-Acts And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, The one thing they have in common is that they were sown of the Lord, and from the good seed of His Word. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. First of all, it tells that the evil in the worldcomes not from God but from his enemy, the evil one. Then, again addressing Himself to the multitude on the shore, He spake the parables of the Tares, the Mustard Seed, and the Leaven; then, dismissing the multitude (Matthew 13:36), He landed with His disciples, and went into the house which was for . Yet the point is clear, both in the world and in the kingdom community. For this parable too, Jesus offers an allegorical interpretation to his disciples in private. It seems to suggest that a skandalon may be something within a person rather than the whole person. 24 Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds. Jesus does not, however, say whom the slaves represent. And when He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Minor Prophets a. And so both grow together now until the harvest. Assuming that the disciples did understand, they had an advantage over many among the multitudes.
